A practical guide from Wellspring Counselling & Psychotherapy
Choosing an anxiety counsellor in Vancouver involves more than comparing a list of therapy names. Consider what you want help with, the clinician’s relevant experience, how you prefer to work and the practical arrangements for attending.
At Wellspring, you can explore individual clinician profiles and use a free 15-minute consultation to discuss fit. This guide offers questions to help you compare our counsellors and decide on a next step.
Start with the changes you want in daily life
Think about situations in which you would like more support. You might want to spend less time caught in worry, feel more able to participate in social situations, or understand patterns that arise around work and relationships.
Bring a few concrete examples rather than trying to explain everything at once. Tell the counsellor what feels difficult, what you have already tried and what you hope might be different. Ask how they would assess your concerns and decide whether their service is appropriate for you.
Ask about experience with your particular concerns
An “anxiety” label on a profile is a starting point for a conversation. Ask about the clinician’s experience with the concerns, age group and type of counselling relevant to you. Someone seeking individual adult counselling may need different experience from a parent seeking support for a young person.
Read the clinician’s professional designation and background. Wellspring’s team includes Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) and Registered Psychotherapists (RPs). You can check RCC registration through BCACC’s register and RP registration through CRPO’s status-check resources.
Understand the proposed approach
CAMH identifies cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a first-line psychotherapy for anxiety disorders. A discussion with your clinician can help you understand how an approach relates to your concerns, preferences and broader circumstances.
Wellspring profiles describe approaches offered by individual clinicians, which may include CBT and other methods. Ask what the proposed work would involve: practical exercises, reflection, work between appointments, or attention to emotions and relationships. Discuss the reasons for the recommendation and how it could be adjusted.
Our anxiety counselling page and CBT guide provide more information about Wellspring’s services. A consultation can help you ask about the clinician’s relevant training and how they would work with you.
Look for a working style you can engage with
Some people prefer a clear structure and practical tasks. Others want room to explore the meaning of their anxiety and the patterns around it. You may want a combination, or you may be unsure until you discuss it.
Use the working-style summaries on our team profiles to compare preferences. Ask how the counsellor invites feedback, responds when an exercise does not feel useful and helps you review progress. You can also ask about language, cultural context or other preferences that matter to your experience of counselling.
Check location, format and fees
Most Wellspring appointments are online. In-person sessions are currently available only in Vancouver at 300–3665 Kingsway, by appointment through select clinicians. Confirm the chosen clinician’s format, location and availability before booking.
For online sessions, tell the counsellor where you will physically attend. Eligibility depends on the clinician and province or territory; our Canada province guide explains the available routes, including Ontario.
The fees page currently lists individual 50-minute counselling appointments at $140–$200. Check the exact clinician, service, duration and rate in the booking system. Confirm benefits coverage for that clinician’s designation with your insurer. Direct billing is not offered; review the 48-hour cancellation and rescheduling policy before booking.
Questions for your free consultation
- Have you worked with concerns and goals similar to mine?
- How would you assess what kind of support would be appropriate?
- What would the first few appointments involve?
- How much structure or work between sessions might be involved?
- How would we review progress and respond if the plan was not helping?
- What fees, formats and appointment availability apply to your service?
The free 15-minute consultation is an introduction to discuss fit and practical questions. Regular counselling appointments are separate, paid sessions. Our consultation checklist can help you prepare.
Compare Wellspring counsellors
Open the team finder, choose British Columbia if that is where you will attend and select Anxiety under area of focus. You can also compare languages, approaches, counselling type and counsellor gender. Read the individual profiles and working styles before choosing a consultation.
If you are unsure which route fits, contact Wellspring with your practical questions. Our self-help articles and self-help videos offer additional information while you consider your next step.
Common questions
Who is the best anxiety counsellor for me?
Compare relevant experience, qualifications, working style and practical arrangements. A consultation is an opportunity to discuss your goals and ask how a clinician would approach them; a ranking score cannot answer those questions for you.
Do I need to choose a therapy approach before contacting Wellspring?
You can start with what you would like help with and discuss possible approaches with the clinician. Ask them to explain their recommendation, the planned work and how you could give feedback.
