Individual or couples counselling: start with what you need
Wellspring’s service for Chilliwack residents is online, so you can meet without travelling to Vancouver. Our only in-person office is in Vancouver, with appointments depending on the clinician. If your main concern is your relationship, you can explore couples counselling and compare the clinicians who work with couples.
If you are looking for your own space to discuss anxiety, grief, family changes or relationships, individual counselling is another starting point. A consultation can help clarify the kind of appointment to book.
Understand the couples approaches on our profiles
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is the couples approach named in Laura’s and Joel’s profiles. Gottman Method couples work is also included in Joel’s and Emily’s approaches. You can ask how a clinician integrates these methods and what working together would involve.
For individual work, Joel also offers EFIT (Johnson). This is different from EFT (Greenberg). Our approach guides and clinician profiles explain those distinctions so similar names do not have to make choosing harder.

Preparing to speak with a couples counsellor
- What would each person like to be different?
- How does the counsellor structure initial appointments and agree on goals?
- What are the session length, fee and cancellation terms?
- Where will each person physically be during online appointments, and does the clinician need to confirm eligibility?
You do not need to resolve those questions alone before making contact. The free consultation is an introductory conversation to discuss fit; it is not a couples therapy session.
Public mental health services in Chilliwack
Fraser Health’s Chilliwack Mental Health and Substance Use Centre is a separate public-service option. Check its current services, eligibility and referral information directly with Fraser Health.
Fees, benefits and your first step
Start with a free 15-minute consultation to discuss fit, your goals and practical questions. It is an introductory conversation; ongoing counselling sessions are paid appointments. Check current fees and insurance information and the clinician’s booking calendar before scheduling.
If you plan to use extended health benefits, ask your insurer whether your chosen clinician’s Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation is covered. A consultation does not establish coverage or guarantee that a particular approach is appropriate for you.
The practice behind your appointments
Wellspring Counselling & Psychotherapy was founded in 2016 by Alistair Gordon, MA, RCC, UBC Adjunct Professor, published author and developer of CorMorphosis™ Psychotherapy. The team offers different therapeutic approaches, languages and areas of practice. You can compare them before deciding who to contact.
