WELLSPRING COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY

Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)

Understand recurring emotional and relationship patterns with an attachment-based approach to individual counselling. Joel Meszaros offers EFIT at Wellspring.

What is EFIT?

EFIT is the individual form of Emotionally Focused Therapy associated with Sue Johnson. It explores how emotional experience and attachment shape the way you relate to yourself and other people. The work can involve slowing down, identifying difficult feelings and needs, and making room for different responses within a supportive therapeutic relationship.

You do not need to attend with a partner. Individual sessions provide space to explore patterns such as withdrawing when you want closeness, becoming overwhelmed in relationships, or finding it hard to feel secure with others.

EFIT and Emotion-Focused Therapy are different

The similar names can be confusing. EFIT refers to Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy within the attachment-based Emotionally Focused Therapy model. Emotion-Focused Therapy associated with Leslie Greenberg is a distinct approach, also commonly abbreviated EFT. Our Emotion-Focused Therapy page describes that separate approach.

Couples work in the Emotionally Focused model is commonly called EFCT. Ask your therapist which model they use and how it relates to your goals.
